Both doctors from the Transport Processes lab took part in the largest European Combustion Meeting to this day, introducing their advances in numerical combustion and data processing methods to the combustion community.

Dr.-Ing. Andrea Dernbecher presented a poster on the advances on the simulation of flows through porous biomass particles, utilizing real geometries extracted from X-ray micro computed tomography and the immersed boundary method, establishing the basis for future research in the development of models including heat and mass transfer and reactions. The poster presented by Dr.-Ing. Juan Jesús Rico summarized his advances in new methodologies for the processing and interpretation of diffuse reflectance infrared Fourier transform spectroscopy data. By utilizing neural networks, an approach to an unsupervised clustering was proposed to extract information about the functional groups detected in biomass samples undergoing pyrolysis.
